In order for a new political party to succeed, it must draw at least 25% of Democrats as members and at least 25% of Republicans as members. If it doesn’t, it will reduce the Republican vote without providing a candidate that can beat the Democrats. However, it could still function as a voting block and throw its weight to the Republican candidate.
